Dedicated Be.EV taxi and private hire charging points
We're introducing 60 rapid charging points across Greater Manchester dedicated only for EV private hire (PHV) and hackney drivers, using £5.9m of government funding. They'll become part of the Be.EV charging network.
We began with more than 100 possible sites, in car parks or public land owned by local councils or Transport for Greater Manchester. After gathering feedback from taxi and private hire drivers and operators, we’re now planning to install two sets of chargers in 30 locations, with each local authority area in Greater Manchester having three sites. Please check back here in summer 2022 for details of the final locations.
The first rapid charger available to all Greater Manchester EV hackney cabs and PHVs is currently scheduled to go live from mid-2022, with all 60 chargers due to be installed by mid-2023.
eHUBS
In partnership with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, we’ll be launching six fast chargers in Manchester and Bury for use by eCar Club members. It’s part of an eHUBS pilot funded by Interreg North-West Europe, offering affordable and easy ways to hire one of 12 electric cars and 25 eCargo bikes for as little as half an hour. Two cars are already available in Didsbury Park and Ride car park.
Park and Ride
We’re building new Park and Ride sites at Whitefield, Walkden and Radcliffe, making it easier for drivers to park up and continue their journey on public transport. As they open in 2022, each new car park will have two fast Be.EV charging points.
