What we're doing
Updated August 2024
Here’s the latest on charging point projects on the ground and future plans
The projects on this page are fully funded through a range of government schemes.
Chargers everywhere
Greater Manchester has been awarded more than £16m funding to install many more low-powered, largely on-street public electric vehicle (EV) chargers across our city region by 2028
It’s part of a national programme of government investment to make it even easier to charge your EV on the go.
TfGM is now working with the ten Greater Manchester local authorities to identify suitable locations for the new chargers.
We’ll keep local residents, businesses and communities updated as we work to make these improvements to electric travel across Greater Manchester.
Check back here for progress updates.
Dedicated Be.EV taxi and private hire charging points
We've installed 60 new rapid charging points dedicated for EV private hire vehicle (PHV) and hackney vehicles.
All the charging points are now available to use as part of the Be.EV charging network.
To use them, you’ll need to be:
licensed by one of the ten Greater Manchester local authorities
registered as a Be.EV taxi scheme member
We chose the locations following feedback from the trade. Two charging points have been installed in 28 of the locations, with one charging point installed in four of the locations (Beeley Street, Kershaw Street, Turnpike House and Waterloo Street).
